The Milky Way Restaurant is thrilled to announce a one-night-only collaborative dinner with celebrated Chef and Author Bonny Reichert on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 6:30PM. Join us as we take a culinary journey through her nationally best-selling memoir How to Share an Egg: A True Story of Hunger, Love and Plenty.
National Magazine Award-winning journalist Bonny Reichert avoided everything to do with the Holocaust until she found herself, in midlife, suddenly typing those words into an article she was writing. The author had grown up hearing stories about her father’s near-starvation and ultimate survival in Auschwitz-Birkenau, but she never imagined she would be able to face this epic legacy head on. Called one of NPR's best memoirs of the year, How to Share an Egg is a journey of deep flavors and surprising contrasts. By turns sweet, salty, sour, and bitter, this is one woman's search to find her voice as a writer, chef, mother and daughter.
Take a journey through the memoir as you enjoy a collaborative, three-course menu from Bonny and Milky Way Executive Chef Phil Kastel inspired by the foods that defined the moments and memories collected throughout the pages. Hear the story-behind-the-story with Bonny herself in conversation with Roberta Grossman, Executive Director of Jewish Story Partners.
Tickets for the evening are $65 per person and are available via Resy. Copies of How to Share an Egg will be available for purchase or bring in your own copy to be signed by the author. 10% of all the evening’s proceeds will benefit Jewish Family Service LA.
